Castlevania Belmont's Curse: every pickup and blocked path

Where the Mourning Bead, Specter's Whisper, Raven's Feather, the Lance and the Attack Up book actually are, by landmark rather than by area, plus the three places the map stops you: the Ruined Market wall, the sewer drain lever and the whip pull you need for the book.

Belmont's Curse builds big areas and then hides single items in them, so the useful thing is rarely the area name. It is the landmark inside it worth walking to.

Here is every pickup we have filmed with the landmark it sits on, and the three places where the way forward is closed rather than hidden.

Every pickup, by landmark

Item Area The landmark to navigate to
Specter's Whisper Catacombs of Paris The Catacombs entrance, so you do not need to go deep
Mourning Bead Catacombs of Paris The Quarry Elevator
The Lance Holy Innocents' Cemetery The Fountain of the Innocents
Raven's Feather Roman Baths
Attack Up book Paris Streets, Central Sewer Drain Gated behind the first boss

Clear these in two trips rather than five. Specter's Whisper sits at the Catacombs entrance and the Mourning Bead is deeper in at the Quarry Elevator, so both are one outing. The Roman Baths hold the Raven's Feather and the bridge puzzle, and the cemetery next door has the Lance at the fountain, so those three are a second outing.

Specter's Whisper gets put off for no reason. The Catacombs read as a later area, so people save them, and the item is sitting at the way in.

The Lance matters more than a second weapon usually would. This game hands you a whip and builds most of its rooms around that reach, so something with a different reach changes which fights are comfortable rather than adding a number.

The Attack Up book has two locks on it

It is gated behind the first boss, Fallen. Going down to the Central Sewer Drain before that is wasted time, and it is worth knowing before you spend twenty minutes sweeping it.

Then the way up is your whip, not a jump. You whip the enemy to pull yourself onto the platform. The platform reads as out of reach and the enemy reads as a threat, so almost nobody tries using one on the other.

The three places the way forward is closed

Where What is actually going on
Ruined Market pathway, Paris Streets The lever is behind a breakable wall on the left side. Break it. Nothing on screen says a wall there can break, so the room reads as finished and people assume it opens later from the other side
Central Sewer Drain lever, Paris Streets Throwing it opens the chamber directly below. Navigate from the Mirror of Life save point in the middle of that map
The bridge puzzle, Roman Baths On the Holy Innocents' Cemetery side. Knowing which bridge is half the problem in an area this size

The Ruined Market is the one that ends runs for an afternoon. A shut door in a cleared room is read as progression rather than as a puzzle, so the natural move is to leave and look elsewhere. There is a breakable wall on the left and the lever is behind it.

On the puzzle solution

The bridge puzzle solution is in the video rather than typed out here, on purpose. A puzzle is the one thing worth watching rather than reading, and printing the answer in a list leaves nothing to do. It takes fifty one seconds, which is less time than getting it wrong twice.

Every route above is filmed from the landmark it starts at.
