Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth Wukong: every secret boss, and the quest that unlocks each one

Fourteen bosses you can finish the game without meeting, each with the thing that unlocks it: a bell, a drum, a questline or a hidden area. Plus all 24 meditation spots by chapter.

Black Myth Wukong will let you finish it having met maybe two thirds of what it built. The rest sits behind a bell you have to ring three times, a drum a character mentions once, a wine cup, and several areas the map declines to mention.

This page lists every secret boss we have filmed and, next to each, the actual thing that opens it. That second column is the one that matters, because knowing a boss exists gets you nowhere.

The secret bosses

Boss Chapter What unlocks it
Elder Jinchi 1 A hidden encounter in Black Wind Mountain
Red Loong 2 A hidden area
Fuban 2 A hidden encounter
Mad Tiger 2 The Old Rattle-Drum quest
Tiger Vanguard, second version 2 The Kingdom of Sahali, reached through the Drunken Boar quest
Shigandang 2 All Buddha's Eyeball locations
Giant Shigandang 2 A superboss beyond the above
Non-Void 3 The Fox questline
The Duskveil 4 A hidden encounter
Jiao-Loong of Waves 5 Found rather than given
Stone Monkey, the Great Sage's Broken Shell 6 The hidden path
Erlang the Sacred Divinity 6 The true route
Emerald-Armed Mantis 4 A hidden encounter
Supreme Inspector Late A hidden encounter

The three unlocks worth doing first

All three Bell locations in Chapter 1. Ringing them opens a secret area, and it is the earliest lesson the game teaches about how it hides things. Miss it and you will miss the same pattern five more times.

The Old Rattle-Drum quest, which is how you reach Mad Tiger. The item is easy to acquire and easy to never use.

The Drunken Boar quest, which is the road to the Kingdom of Sahali. Sahali holds a second, harder Tiger Vanguard, and the area itself is one of the best things in the game.

The questlines that gate everything else

Several of the bosses above are the end of a chain rather than a door.

Questline What it leads to
Fox questline Non-Void, and the ability to transform into the fox again later
Loong quest The Sire and Sons trophy
Chen Loong quest Zodiac Village and the Ruyi Scroll
Man-in-Stone The Azure Dust spell and a secret item shop
Purple Altar, four talismans The Crane Immortal
Turtle Tear A one-off item most players never hold
Snake and Daoist Mi The Violet Hail transformation
Treasure Hunter The Spell Binder
Prisoner quest The Chu-Bai Spear, through the Captain Spirits
Elder Amourworm The Proto Amourworm and the Rice Cocoon
Old Man questline The Always Accompanied trophy
Horse Guai The Urge Unfulfilled trophy

Man-in-Stone deserves its own line. It gives you a spell and a secret item shop, and it is one of the few quests in the game that improves your build rather than your collection.

All 24 meditation spots

Meditation spots are the one collection with a confirmed total, and we filmed them both as a single all-chapters route and per chapter.

Chapter Area Spots
1 Black Wind Mountain 3
2 Yellow Wind Ridge Filmed
3 The New West 5
4 The Webbed Hollow 6
All chapters 24

If you only want one video from this page, take the 24 of 24 route. It closes the collection in a single pass.

Two more collections worth naming

All five Skandha locations, which reward the Five Skandhas Pill. The Skandha of Form has its own guide because it is the one people get stuck on.

The six frogs, for the Clamor of Frogs trophy. Each frog is a small boss fight rather than a pickup, which is why they are missed by anyone treating them as a collectible sweep.

The order that gets you everything

  1. Chapter 1: ring all three bells before you leave.
  2. Chapter 2: Old Rattle-Drum, then Drunken Boar, then the Buddha's Eyeballs. In that order, because Sahali is worth having open early.
  3. Start the Fox questline as soon as it appears, since it runs long and gates Non-Void in Chapter 3.
  4. Do Man-in-Stone the moment you can, for the spell and the shop.
  5. Sweep meditation spots per chapter as you clear each one, rather than returning for all 24 at the end.
  6. Leave Erlang and the Stone Monkey for last, since both belong to the endgame and both are harder than anything before them.

The rule underneath all of this: in Wukong, an NPC who mentions an object is telling you about a boss. The game does not repeat itself, and it never marks the map.
