Assassin's Creed Shadows has more named things in it than any other game we cover, and its map markers are close to useless for finding a specific one. You know the weapon you want. The map knows there is a question mark somewhere in Yamashiro.
So this page is organised the way people actually search: by the name of the thing.
Legendary and epic gear, by weapon type
| Type | Named pieces |
|---|---|
| Katana | Bloodshade, Steel Blossom |
| Long katana | Turquoise Zephyr |
| Tanto | Igan Sunset, Call of the Void |
| Kusarigama | Deathbloom, Feather Storm, Demon Tooth |
| Kanabo | Rage of Red Mist, Venom Pillar |
| Teppo | Cascading Fear, Patient Harbinger |
| Trinket | Graceful Crane, Otakemaru's Battlecry, Tatsu's Triumph, Oni's Fury, Flight of the Ubagabi |
| Armour | Ship Captain's Gear, Peasant Clothes, Sumire's Gear, Yu-no-shin's Gear |
| Headgear | Yurei Walker Hood, Peasant Hat, Tamakichi's Hood, Yu-no-shin's Hood |
Five legendary trinkets is the most of any category, and trinkets are the category people ignore, because a trinket has no model on your character and so never advertises itself. They are also where several of the build-defining effects live.
The 19 temples with Lost Pages
Lost Pages are per temple, and the temple names are what appear on your map.
| Temple |
|---|
| Aga Hontokuji Temple |
| Byodoin Temple |
| Dojoji Temple |
| Gansenji Temple |
| Gokurakuji Temple |
| Jison-in |
| Kofukuji Temple |
| Kuramadera Temple |
| Kyokaiji Temple |
| Makinoodera Temple |
| Miidera |
| Negoroji Temple |
| Saifukuji Temple |
| Saika Temple Grounds |
| Shokokuji Temple |
| Sokenji Temple |
| Tenryuji Temple |
| Todaiji Temple |
| Toji Temple |
Two of these are not called "Temple" at all. Jison-in and Miidera carry Lost Pages the same as the rest, and they are missed because a player looking for temples reads their names as something else.
The 7 shrines
| Shrine |
|---|
| Aekuni Shrine |
| Ishinohoden Shrine |
| Kamikura Shrine |
| Kumano Hayatama Taisha |
| Nagahama Hachimangu Shrine |
| Shirahige Shrine |
| Tokei |
Kumano Hayatama Taisha and Tokei are the two that break the naming pattern, and both hold shrines regardless.
The seven named collections
These are the ones with their own quest, their own trophy, or both.
| Collection | Total | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Kuji-Kiri | 22 | Zen Master trophy |
| Butterflies | 10 | Butterfly Collector quest |
| Dishes | 16 | |
| Legendary Sumi-e | A Rare Occurrence trophy | |
| Tea Bowls | ||
| Godai Shinobi | The full shinobi set | |
| Pirate Alliance | The full pirate set |
Kuji-Kiri is the largest at 22 and the one worth planning around, because the Zen Master trophy needs every one and they are spread across the whole map.
The 16 dishes are the collection people find by accident and then cannot finish, because a dish is a location rather than a pickup and there is no counter that helps.
Two questlines that open more than they look like they do
Yamabushi Imposters and the Silver Smugglers each start somewhere unmarked. Both have their own guide for starting them, which is the hard part. Once started they run normally.
Merchant Kin-no-suke is a full quest with its own guide, and the Takatsuki Castle Kura key is a single item that opens something you will otherwise assume is locked for story reasons.
The trophies, and which need a plan
| Trophy | Needs a plan? |
|---|---|
| Zen Master, all 22 Kuji-Kiri | Yes, it is the biggest job here |
| A Rare Occurrence, Legendary Sumi-e | Yes |
| Master Shinobi | Yes |
| Giant Slayer | Yes |
| Acrobatics | No |
| Unseen | No |
| Scouting Mission | No |
| Hook, Line, and Swinger | No |
| Chase the Morning | No |
| Everybody Benefits! | No |
| Front of the Pack | No |
| Sometimes | No |
| Against Wood and Stone | No |
| Made You Look | No |
How to run this without drowning
The map is enormous and the collections overlap, so the order matters more here than in most games.
- Get one legendary weapon in the class you actually use, early. The list above is sorted by weapon type for exactly this reason. One good katana changes the first twenty hours; five trinkets you never equip change nothing.
- Do temples and shrines by region, not by list. The lists above are alphabetical so you can search them. They are a terrible route.
- Pick up Kuji-Kiri whenever one is within reach. Twenty-two spread over the whole map is a nightmare as a dedicated hunt and easy as a habit.
- Start Yamabushi Imposters and Silver Smugglers as soon as you can find them, since both run long.
- Leave dishes and tea bowls for last. They are the least rewarding per hour and the most pleasant to mop up when you already know the map.
Every entry above has its own video named for the thing itself, so the fastest way to use this page is to search it for the exact name you are looking for.
